Hygiene and Checkups

A vast list of dental procedures to fit your needs

In recent years, it has been shown that a lack of oral hygiene can have an impact on systemic health mainly by affecting cardio-vascular health and diabetes. It has been proven many times that known oral pathogens have been found in the plaque of arteries and the mouth was their point of entry into the body. Oral bacteria and viruses are also a major cause of inflammation into the digestive system and can cause issues during pregnancy.

Scaling and root planning

One of the first signs of gum disease after gingivitis is the buildup of tartar and bacteria on the root of the teeth below the gum line. This is treated using an ultrasonic scaler as well as curettes to remove all the toxic bacteria from the root surface. The roots are then planned (made smoother) to remove all the possible small traps where bacteria would be able to get lodge in easily. This will stop the inflammation process in your gums and will promote a better overall health.

What makes our dental cleanings biological?

  • Use of non-fluoridated polishing pastes; No fluoride rinses or varnishes, use of ozonated pure water for the cleaning processes.
  • Laser therapy to treat periodontal issues (gum disease)
  • Possibility of doing ozone injections for various gum diseases and pain management
  • Higher awareness of biological health interconnectedness

Comprehensive dental exam

This is the most thorough type of exam that we offer. Every new patient will have this examination so we can create a baseline of the actual state of your teeth and mouth. During this exam, we will examine your teeth, your gums, your occlusion (bite), your jaw and bone and we will screen for sleep related breathing disorders (for example sleep apnea and snoring) and TMJ issues known as TMD (temporomandibular disorders). We will also consider any cosmetic issues linked to your teeth or any demand regarding facial aesthetics.

This exam requires x-rays to be taken as well as pictures and intra-oral pictures. A 3D x-ray known as a CBCT (Cone-beam computed tomography) may also be needed depending on your complaints and symptoms.

Periodic oral exam

This is the routine examination performed once or twice a year at the same time as you come to the office for your dental cleaning. It often requires x-rays as it is the only way to detect cavities between your teeth, periodontal issues (gum disease) and bone disease. Being a biological office, we try to reduce the amount of x-ray as low as possible while making sure to be able to diagnose any active dental disease.

Limited exam

This examination is done when a single tooth is the cause of your discomfort. This is an in depth look at that specific tooth and may require an x-ray or not depending on the case.
